About the role

Location: Southampton
Salary: £26,805 – £27,464 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract Type: Full-Time, Maternity Cover until January 2027
Reporting to: Service Manager and Deputy Service Manager

About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker to join a Family Safeguarding service based across Southampton.

This role involves working collaboratively within co-located, multi-disciplinary Family Safeguarding Teams alongside social work professionals and partner agencies to support families affected by domestic abuse. The successful candidate will work directly with victims-survivors, children, and individuals displaying abusive behaviours to improve safety, reduce risk, and support long-term positive outcomes for families.

Key Responsibilities

Victim & Survivor Support

  • Provide one-to-one support, advocacy, crisis intervention, and safety planning for victims and survivors of domestic abuse
  • Carry out evidence-based risk assessments and develop individual safety plans
  • Support victims-survivors to make informed and positive choices to improve safety and wellbeing
  • Deliver parenting and family support where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with families using a whole-family safeguarding approach

Supporting Children & Young People

  • Ensure children and young people receive appropriate one-to-one support, safety planning, and risk assessments
  • Support children in understanding and recovering from the impact of domestic abuse
  • Contribute to wider family action and safeguarding plans
  • Refer children and young people to specialist services and community-based support programmes where appropriate

Working with Individuals Displaying Abusive Behaviours

  • Identify and assess perpetrating behaviours and associated risks
  • Engage individuals in behaviour change interventions and support programmes
  • Work collaboratively with specialist perpetrator services and partner agencies
  • Support parents in understanding the impact of domestic abuse on parenting and child development
  • Assist in developing and facilitating targeted group work, including parenting-focused interventions

Multi-Agency Working

  • Work closely with:
    • Family Safeguarding Teams
    • Police
    • Probation services
    • Mental health services
    • MARAC and MAPPA panels
    • Community organisations and support services
  • Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and forums
  • Escalate safeguarding and risk concerns appropriately and promptly
  • Promote coordinated multi-agency responses to domestic abuse and child protection concerns

Safeguarding & Professional Practice

  • Work within safeguarding legislation, confidentiality requirements, and data protection procedures
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records and documentation
  • Remain up to date with legislation, policy changes, and best practice relating to domestic abuse and safeguarding
  • Uphold professional standards, organisational procedures, and codes of conduct at all times
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of community responses to domestic abuse

On-Call Responsibilities

This role includes participation in an out-of-hours on-call rota supporting domestic abuse services within the Southampton area.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence with business insurance and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work at NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on women, men, children, and families
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Experience supporting vulnerable individuals within a multi-agency environment
  • Experience delivering community-based support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse or crime
  • Experience advocating on behalf of vulnerable individuals
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload proactively and independently
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills
  • Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and safe working practices
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-oppressive practice
  • Experience facilitating support groups or targeted group work
  • Enhanced DBS check required
