Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker – Home Safety Specialist

Location: Southampton (with travel as required)
Salary: £26,805.75 – £27,464.70 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm)

About the Role

Joneshouse Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a valued client for a Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker – Home Safety Specialist.

This rewarding role focuses on improving the safety of adults and families affected by domestic abuse by delivering practical home security measures, known as target hardening, alongside advocacy and support.

Working across Southampton and surrounding areas when required, you’ll help victims-survivors remain safe in their homes by carrying out property security improvements, supporting risk management, and working closely with partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess properties and identify appropriate home security improvements based on individual risk assessments.
• Install or coordinate practical safety measures, including:
  • Additional door and window locks
  • Smoke alarms and fire safety equipment
  • Window alarms
  • Security lighting
  • Video doorbells and security cameras
  • Fencing, gates and other security improvements
• Work collaboratively with local authorities, housing providers and partner agencies to improve client safety.
• Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords and other agencies where appropriate.
• Respond to referrals within agreed timescales.
• Promote awareness of domestic abuse services and support available within the community.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed to protect children and vulnerable adults.
• Identify and escalate safeguarding or high-risk concerns where necessary.
• Carry out lone-working risk assessments before home visits.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records using electronic case management systems.
• Complete reports, monitoring information and administrative tasks in a timely manner.
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends where required.
• Attend team meetings, supervision, training and continuing professional development activities.
• Provide cover for colleagues when required.

Essential

• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Experience using hand and power tools safely.
• Experience working within clients’ homes.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Experience identifying and delivering home security improvements.
• Experience supporting vulnerable individuals in a professional setting.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• Good IT, literacy and numeracy skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to manage workloads independently and prioritise effectively.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations.
