About the role

What will you be doing?

The work of the library service is hugely rewarding and every day the front of house teams make a difference to the lives of their customers and local communities. Our five Mobile Libraries take our services out to communities in urban and rural areas across Kent.

We are looking to recruit a Mobile Library Driver/Customer Support Assistant to help us run the service. Some weekend working will be required. The position would cover Dover district and Thanet.

You will have good interpersonal skills, be confident working in a customer service role with the public and be able to undertake a diverse range of tasks. These will include issuing, returning and reserving books and other resources using our IT systems and working to a set timetable. Prior library experience isn’t essential – it’s much more important that you’re friendly, outgoing and approachable.

The successful applicants will need to hold a full driving licence that has a part C1 and a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) would be desirable (training can be provided), as well as commercial experience driving a 7.5 tonne vehicle.

As a Kent County Council employee you will enjoy the following great benefits:

  • Competitive salary.
  • Annual leave allowance paid pro-rata for hours worked.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.
  • A wide range of health and wellbeing support.
  • Good work/life balance.
  • Access to Kent Rewards scheme, with discounts and cashback from hundreds of companies.

If you are interested in taking library services into community locations across Kent we would like to hear from you.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
