Y5 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Full-Time | Immediate Start | Until the End of the Academic Year | Up to £100 per day PAYE

We are seeking a caring, patient and dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 5 pupil in a primary school in Barnsley. This is a full-time opportunity starting as soon as possible and continuing until the end of the academic year.

This role would suit an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping them reach their full potential in a supportive school environment.

The Role
As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a Year 5 pupil, providing tailored support to help them access learning, develop independence and engage positively with the school day.

You will work alongside the class teacher and wider school team to ensure the pupil receives consistent, individualised support in line with their needs. The role will involve supporting learning, encouraging positive behaviour and helping the pupil develop confidence both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with SEND.
• Support the pupil in accessing classroom activities and the wider curriculum.
• Adapt learning activities and instructions to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
• Promote independence, confidence and positive engagement with learning.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies where appropriate.
• Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil.
• Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and other school staff.
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

The Ideal CandidateWe are looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and committed to making a positive difference in a child’s education.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience supporting children with SEND in a school or educational setting.
• Experience providing 1:1 support or working with pupils who require additional assistance.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A calm, flexible and proactive approach.
• The ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate support.
• A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Experience supporting pupils with additional learning, communication, emotional or behavioural needs would be advantageous.

• Start Date: ASAP
• Duration: Until the end of the academic year
• Working Pattern: Full-time, Monday to Friday
• Working Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
• Pay Rate: Up to £100 per day PAYE
