About the role
Veritas Education | Specialist SEN Schools |
Veritas Education is currently working with specialist SEN schools, alternative provisions and mainstream schools with specialist units across West Yorkshire who are seeking Cover SEN Teachers to support pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
We are looking for passionate, adaptable and dedicated teachers who can create inclusive learning environments, deliver engaging lessons and support pupils with a range of physical, learning, sensory, communication and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Whether you are looking for day-to-day supply, flexible working opportunities or a longer-term placement, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the education, development and independence of young people.
The Role
As a Supply SEN Teacher, you will deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs and abilities of pupils. You will work within specialist SEN settings, alternative provisions and mainstream specialist units, helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lesson Planning and Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps to accommodate individual learning styles and abilities.
Individualised Learning Plans: Contribute to the development, implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised learning targets.
Assessment and Progress Tracking: Monitor pupil progress, assess learning outcomes, mark work and maintain accurate records of academic achievement and personal development.
Behaviour and Emotional Support: Implement positive behaviour management strategies, de-escalation techniques and emotional regulation support to maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with teaching assistants, parents and carers, therapists, psychologists, social workers and other professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent, individualised support.
Life Skills and Personal Development: Deliver learning opportunities that promote independence, communication, social interaction and essential life skills.
Sensory Learning and Regulation: Plan and deliver sensory-based activities, sensory circuits and Zones of Regulation strategies to support engagement and emotional well-being.
PSHE and Wider Learning: Support pupils in developing practical knowledge and skills around relationships, personal hygiene, sleep, safety and everyday life.
Professional Development: Participate in relevant training, workshops and educational visits to enhance pupils' learning experiences and your own professional development.
Key Requirements
A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach, with the ability to build positive relationships and trust with vulnerable pupils.
Strong emotional resilience, with the ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain clear, consistent boundaries.
Excellent communication, active listening and conflict resolution skills.
Experience working with children or young people with additional needs in educational, care or specialist support settings.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification desirable.
An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. We can provide guidance on obtaining one if required.
Specialist training or qualifications, such as Team Teach, safeguarding or positive behaviour support, are advantageous.
A flexible, reliable and proactive approach, with the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of different pupils and school environments.
