About the role
We are looking for a reliable Traffic Marshall to commence work on a long term role in Manchester. You will be working alongside the site management team in order to complete units on site. The site, located in a busy residential area is well serviced by public transport links and is conveniently within walking distance of a wide range of supermarkets, local restaurants and high-street stores.
Prior to starting the traffic marshall role you must have the following;
- Valid CSCS
- Traffic Marshall ticket
- Own PPE
- Availability to work Monday to Friday
- 2 or more references
A traffic marshal is in charge of controlling and managing vehicle movement in a pre-defined area. As such, traffic marshals create roadways through a site, mark entrances and exits, and assist drivers of bulky vehicles. They ensure a seamless flow of movement, together with safety and security on-site. Traffic marshals may also be referred to as banksmen.
Traffic marshal duties and responsibilities
A traffic marshal needs to have eyes and ears everywhere on the site assigned to them. Depending on the location of the work, the roles and responsibilities of a traffic marshal vary. For example, a traffic marshal working in the retail industry may be in charge of directing vehicles inside and outside a multi-storey car park, thus ensuring the greatest traffic flow possible. On the other hand, a traffic marshal in the construction industry will have more to do with guiding drivers of awkward vehicles such as large trucks or cranes through risk areas and when their visibility is reduced. They safeguard the site from road accidents and are responsible for the smooth flow of vehicles. More specifically, the responsibilities and duties of a traffic marshal are as follows:
- guiding heavy vehicle drivers on-site and into and out of the site
- facilitating the movement of cranes and other awkward vehicles safely and securely
- ensuring that road safety regulations on-site are followed by all drivers and other workers
- creating the optimum traffic route and managing the traffic flow at the entrance and exit of the site
- delivering safety briefings to all team members or other stakeholders who will be entering the site
- preserving public traffic when and where required
- ensuring security and surveillance on the designated site.
