Are you passionate about Food Technology and helping young people thrive in education?
We are seeking either an experienced Food Technology Teacher or a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEMH Alternative Provision in Burgess Hill from September.
This setting supports students aged 5–16 who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, anxiety, behavioural difficulties, or have struggled to access mainstream education. The provision focuses on creating a supportive, engaging, and nurturing environment where students can rebuild confidence and develop a positive relationship with learning.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering engaging Food Technology lessons and practical cooking sessions, helping students develop valuable life skills alongside their education.
Responsibilities include:
Delivering Food Technology lessons and practical cooking activities.
Supporting students to develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
Creating a safe and engaging learning environment.
Adapting learning to meet individual student needs.
Supporting pupils who may present with SEMH needs, anxiety, or challenging behaviour.
Building positive relationships and encouraging engagement with education.
Working closely with support staff and the wider school team.
About the Provision
The provision supports students who:
Have SEMH needs and emotional regulation difficulties.
May be at risk of exclusion or have been excluded from mainstream education.
Require smaller class sizes and a personalised approach.
Benefit from additional support to improve confidence, wellbeing, and educational outcomes.
The focus is on helping students achieve academically while also developing resilience, life skills, and positive pathways into further education, employment, and apprenticeships.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
Has experience teaching Food Technology or delivering practical cooking sessions.
Holds QTS, QTLS, HLTA status, or relevant experience within education.
Has experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs.
Is confident managing behaviour and using positive behaviour strategies.
Can build strong relationships with young people.
Is patient, resilient, and committed to helping students succeed.
Has a passion for practical learning and life skills education.
