About the role

We are seeking to appoint a HLTA to work with our school to ensure a highly effective EAL programme for our pupils. At St George's we have around 80% of our pupils who have English as an Additional Language and many who are new to English and new to living in England. A part of this role would also involve supporting parents including leading a parent English group, supporting translation (the ability to speak in fluent Arabic is highly desirable) and supporting our parent group with admin jobs such as online school applications.

There will also be some class PPA cover requirements both timetabled and ad-hoc - this is expected to be around 2 days per week.

There is some flexibility in hours and we would consider a 4 day post for the right applicant although it is initially being advertised as 8.30-3.30 Monday to Friday.

It is highly desirable that the successful candidate:

-Has experience of working with children from EYFS to Year 6 and has ideally had class cover experiences across the school

-Has experience of working with children who are new to English or are EAL on a 1:1, small group group and whole class basis

-Ideally speaks fluent Arabic and is able to support with translation from Arabic to English and vice versa. (Arabic is the most common home language for children and parents at our school.)

-This role also may include some pastoral or therapeutic interventions for our EAL pupils who may need this additional support. Training can be provided for this element of the role, although previous experience is desirable

We are therefore looking for a HLTA who will actively support and promote our ethos in every aspect of school life. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join a friendly, hard working team who genuinely care about our children and keep them at the centre.

This position is temporary until December 2027 while the structure of the school stabilises and funding is secured for next academic year. We hope that there will be an opportunity to extend this role.

If you think you are the person for this role, please contact the school office for an informal chat or to arrange a visit on [phone removed]. Applications should be made electronically via My New Term.

We offer:

A caring, supportive Christian ethos and vision for education

Creative, engaged and enthusiastic children

A dedicated, friendly and supportive staff team and governing body

The opportunity to be part of a supportive Multi Academy Trust

We are particularly looking for a HLTA who is:

dedicated and enthusiastic about improving outcomes for all learners

Supportive of our Christian vision and values

Able to work collaboratively with our team and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with fresh, creative ideas that help to raise standards

Able to understand the learning needs of pupils and ensure that they are enabled to reach their full potential

Motivated by challenge and change and keen to reflect on personal practice
