About the role

Job summary

Across government, end user computing is essential to enabling a productive, secure and modern digital workplace. As organisations adopt cloud-first strategies and flexible working models, robust End User Computing (EUC) services are critical to ensuring colleagues can access the tools and systems they need, wherever they are. Strong technical leadership is required to design, manage and continuously improve these services in a secure and scalable way.

Ofgem plays a vital role in the UK’s energy system, protecting consumers and enabling a more secure, fair and sustainable energy future. Delivering a reliable, high-quality digital workplace is key to supporting our people and ensuring the organisation can operate effectively.

Ofgem is on an ambitious transformation journey. Within the Digital, Data and Security Services (DDSS) directorate, we are modernising our digital workplace, expanding our use of Microsoft 365 and strengthening our endpoint and identity capabilities. This includes building secure, resilient and user-centred services that support collaboration, mobility and productivity across the organisation.

As a Lead End User Computing Engineer, you will act as the technical authority for EUC and digital workplace services. You will define standards, guide architecture and provide assurance across Microsoft 365, endpoint management and identity services. You will work closely with architects, security teams and service operations to ensure platforms are secure, scalable and aligned to organisational needs.

This is a technically deep and highly influential role, requiring strong expertise across modern workplace technologies and the ability to lead on complex technical challenges while driving continuous improvement.

Job description

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the design, governance and continuous improvement of End User Computing and digital workplace services
  • Acting as the technical authority for Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and related services
  • Defining and maintaining standards for endpoint management using Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot and device compliance tooling
  • Providing technical leadership on identity and access management, including Entra ID, Conditional Access, and secure BYOD models
  • Overseeing integration of workplace technologies with cloud and on-premises systems
  • Leading the investigation and resolution of complex technical incidents, acting as the senior escalation point
  • Driving root cause analysis and implementing long-term, sustainable fixes
  • Supporting the delivery of major changes, deployments and service improvements with appropriate technical assurance
  • Identifying opportunities for optimisation and continuous improvement across EUC services
  • Producing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation and knowledge resources
  • Collaborating with internal teams, suppliers and partners (including Microsoft) to ensure effective service delivery
  • Mentoring engineers and service desk teams, building capability and promoting best practice across the organisation

We are looking for:

A highly experienced End User Computing engineer who can act as a technical leader within a complex enterprise environment. You will bring deep expertise in Microsoft 365 and modern workplace technologies, alongside the ability to influence and guide delivery across teams.

You may come from an EUC, infrastructure or workplace engineering background, but you will demonstrate:

  • Strong experience supporting and managing Microsoft 365 services in an enterprise environment
  • Expertise in endpoint management, including Microsoft Intune and device lifecycle management
  • Experience with Windows Autopilot, Entra ID (Azure AD), identity and access management, and application integration
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and incident management capability
  • Understanding of security, compliance and governance within device and identity services
  • Ability to design and implement scalable, secure workplace solutions
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly

Relevant Microsoft and/or ITIL certifications are expected (or willingness to achieve).

Experience with Power Platform, Azure Virtual Desktop or working in a public sector or regulated environment would be beneficial.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping Ofgem’s digital workplace and end user experience. You will help ensure that services are secure, resilient and designed to meet user needs, supporting productivity and collaboration across the organisation as it delivers on its mission.
