About the role

We are Creditspring, a new way of borrowing that focuses on its members and provides them with safe and efficient short-term financial products.

We're a fast-growing FCA-regulated consumer credit company. We have members, not customers and we take a lot of pride in that!

As one of the UK’s only subscription finance company in the market, we truly have a unique value proposition. Our mission is very clear; to improve the financial stability and resilience of our members. We do this through the products we provide, the partnerships we have, and our educational content. We want our members, and everyone in the UK to be able to better manage their finances and steer them away from high-cost, unregulated credit options.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave. This is a hybrid role based in our London office.

Reporting to the CFO, you’ll lead the month end close and own technical accounting, managing a team of two: a Senior Financial Accountant and an Assistant Financial Accountant. You’ll work closely with our Treasurer on lender reporting and cash, partner with FP&A, Legal, Data and Software on project work, and share month end results and cost visibility reporting with the CEO and wider Exco.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, ACA qualified finance leader who is as comfortable reviewing reconciliations as writing a technical memo on expected credit losses. You’ll enjoy making processes faster, clearer and more resilient.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month end close, including managing and coaching the team, performing and documenting review controls, and planning cover across the team.

  • Own source to ledger data integrity, leading the team to maintain reconciliations and checks through data platform changes.

  • Drive process improvements, including faster time to close, more frequent prepayments and accruals postings, and timely, clearly labelled results for the CEO and ExCo.

  • Own technical accounting, including accounting policies, technical memos and judgement areas such as expected credit losses, effective interest, loan modifications, share based payments and compound financial instruments.

  • Support lender and facility reporting with the Treasurer and CFO. This means producing and reconciling the month end data that feeds covenant calculations and lender certificates, and maintaining the bridge between management accounts and audited IFRS accounts.

  • Lead the annual audit with our external auditors, including project management, producing the annual IFRS accounts and disclosures, and preparing technical memos and audit evidence.

  • Strengthen controls and resilience by documenting runbooks and training a deputy for each critical finance process, so that no process depends on one person.

  • Support statutory and regulatory returns and system access governance, in line with the CFO’s allocation of ownership, and act as finance representative in incident management.

  • Continue to optimise our GL package (iPlicit) and finance systems, including reporting and cost visibility, with support from the CFO.

What you'll need to succeed

Essential

  • ACA qualified (or equivalent) with 6+ years’ experience, including managing a team.

  • Strong IFRS knowledge, ideally including expected credit loss outputs and amortised cost accounting.

  • Experience working with lender covenants and facility reporting.

  • Confident working with external auditors.

Desirable

  • Experience in fintech or consumer lending (strongly preferred).

  • Experience building finance processes from scratch.

  • Experience of audit or due diligence ahead of a funding or exit event.

Don’t meet all the listed requirements? Research shows that women and people of underrepresented groups often don't apply for jobs unless they're 100% qualified. As an equal opportunities employer, we know that diversity is a key part of our teams' successes - so if your experience doesn’t fit perfectly but this role excites you, we’d love for you to apply. We’re committed to Creditspring being an inclusive environment where employees feel welcomed, valued and listened to; we want you to thrive as your true self.
