About the role

Bring your mechanical or electrical engineering experience into renewable energy, with comprehensive biomass training and the opportunity to build a long-term career.

An established biomass heating specialist based in Tiverton. With over 15 years’ experience designing, supplying and installing renewable heating systems, our client is expanding its engineering team.

We welcome applications from experienced service engineers and engineers looking to train in biomass technology. Previous biomass experience is desirable, but training will be provided for someone with relevant transferable engineering skills.

Working away is a key part of this role. You must be comfortable travelling nationwide and regularly staying away during the working week, potentially for up to four nights per week. Some weeks will involve fewer overnight stays. Overnight expenses are paid.

You’ll service and maintain biomass boilers at customer sites across the UK, investigate faults and help keep heating systems operating reliably.

What you'll do

  • Carrying out planned servicing, maintenance and breakdown repairs.
  • Diagnosing faults and identifying the parts and labour needed for repairs or further work.
  • Completing accurate service reports, parts lists and recommendations.
  • Providing technical support to customers by phone and on site.
  • Working closely with the Lead Engineer and Aftersales team to resolve technical issues.
  • Supporting installation projects when required.
  • Supporting and guiding junior colleagues where appropriate to your experience.
  • Following health and safety procedures and maintaining company tools and vehicles.
  • Keeping timesheets, expense claims and service paperwork up to date.

What you'll need

  • A mechanical or electrical engineering background, with relevant servicing, maintenance or fault-finding experience.
  • A willingness to learn and develop specialist biomass engineering skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • The flexibility to travel nationwide and stay away for up to four nights during the working week.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisation, practical problem-solving skills and clear communication.
  • The ability to produce accurate written reports and use Microsoft Office.
  • Biomass experience, welding skills and IPAF or PASMA qualifications would be an advantage.

Benefits

  • Paid overtime.
  • Comprehensive industry-specific training.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Company health and wellbeing support package.
  • 21 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, increasing by one day for each year of service, up to five additional days.
  • An additional day off for your birthday.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Overnight expenses paid when working away.
