  • Translate various other documents, for example policies, local plans, forms, letters, adverts, recruitment information, newsletters, notices, legal documents of all kinds, signs, circulars and leaflets

  • Provide assistance and advice to all Council departments on matters relating to the Council’s Welsh Language Standards, Internal Cymraeg Language Policy and translation
  • Provide a proofreading, editing and checking service for Cymraeg texts produced by other members of staff, and offer advice on individual pieces of work
  • Take part in staff meetings and discussions and make a positive contribution to the development of the translation service and language services generally

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an individual who can work accurately and quickly under pressure and who will be an effective member of the team. We would welcome applications from experienced translators as well as new graduates.

Why apply?

  • Flexible working options for a work life balance, including adjusting your working day
  • Hybrid working – a balance of office and home working
  • Plenty of variety, translating for all Council services and external organisations
  • A supportive team, with help available whether you’re in the office or at home

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or other equivalent qualification
  • A Level in Cymraeg
  • Specialist knowledge of English and Cymraeg to enable accurate translation from one language to the other

  • Ability to deal with substantial workloads and produce a substantial amount of work within tight deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills to work with Council staff, other translators, Councillors and the public

  • Membership of a recognised institute/society of translators
  • Ability to undertake simultaneous translation (not essential, but the successful candidate can do so if they wish)
  • Knowledge of the Council’s procedures and its various departments
  • Experience of using fixed and portable translation equipment
