Job Introduction

Healthy outcomes start with positive patient experiences.

As a R&D Porter at Sodexo in Hereford County Hospital, you’ll be an essential part of the hospital’s daily operations — safely moving patients, vital equipment, and medical supplies throughout the site. With professionalism and a friendly approach, you’ll help reduce the stress of hospital visits for patients, staff, and visitors alike.

What you’ll do:

  • Receive, unload and check deliveries against delivery notes, orders and relevant systems, identifying quantity, packaging or product discrepancies.
  • Report missing, damaged, incorrect or unsuitable deliveries promptly to the designated manager or supervisor.
  • Record receipt and onward distribution accurately, maintaining a clear audit trail and obtaining evidence of delivery where required.
  • Sort, organise and safely store goods in designated areas, ensuring items are stacked appropriately and are ready for collection or dispatch.
  • Load, unload and move transported items safely, using cages, trolleys or other approved handling equipment as required.
  • Monitor stock holdings and par levels, support stock rotation, assist with stocktakes and report shortages, wastage or unusual variances.
  • Provide additional porter services such pharmacy runs, moving furniture, and transporting records or patients.

What you bring:

  • Physical stamina and ability to walk or stand for extended periods
  • Awareness of health and safety practices in a hospital setting
  • Calmness under pressure and adaptability to changing tasks
  • A strong team ethic with the ability to work independently when needed
  • An understanding of confidentiality, emotional resilience, and sensitivity in difficult situations
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • A helpful, patient-focused attitude and commitment to delivering excellent customer care
