An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head Veterinary Surgeon to lead a modern, purpose-built small animal practice in Lincoln. This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to combine a varied first opinion caseload with clinical leadership, supporting and developing a talented team while driving clinical excellence within a well-equipped and growing practice.

The spacious, modern surgery is equipped with the latest technology, providing an excellent environment for delivering high-quality first opinion medicine and surgery.

The practice is supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, with many colleagues working towards postgraduate certificates and developing specialist interests. Collaboration, continuous learning and clinical excellence are at the heart of the practice, creating an enjoyable and rewarding working environment.

As Head Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work alongside an experienced team of Veterinary Surgeons, Registered Veterinary Nurses and support colleagues while helping to shape the future development of the practice.

The Role

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to progress into a clinical leadership role while continuing to enjoy a varied first opinion caseload.

Working a 4-day week with a 1 in 4 weekend rota, you’ll lead the veterinary team, promote clinical excellence and support the ongoing development of colleagues while remaining actively involved in consultations, diagnostics and surgery.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Leading and developing the veterinary team.
• Providing outstanding first opinion medical and surgical care.
• Performing consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures.
• Promoting evidence-based clinical decision making.
• Supporting and mentoring Veterinary Surgeons, including recent graduates.
• Driving clinical governance and maintaining high clinical standards.
• Leading clinical audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Working closely with the nursing leadership team to deliver exceptional patient care.
• Supporting recruitment, training and professional development.
• Contributing to the strategic growth and ongoing success of the practice.

The role includes dedicated administration time to support leadership responsibilities, alongside a varied and rewarding clinical caseload.

About You

• MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon.
• Significant experience within small animal first opinion practice.
• Confident in both medicine and surgery.
• Previous leadership or mentoring experience is desirable.
• Passionate about developing colleagues and promoting clinical excellence.
• Excellent communication, organisational and people management skills.
• A collaborative and supportive leader with a proactive approach.
