Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone who is passionate about supporting children to join our strong team at Bedenham Primary School.

We are looking to appoint a Specialist Pupil Support Assistant for Lunchtime (SPSA). This is a specialist role within our Lunchtime Team, providing additional support for pupils before, during and after the main lunchtime period.

The successful candidate will provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including support with regulation, communication, social interaction, independence, routines and transitions. The role may also include personal or intimate care. Alongside this specialist support, the postholder will work as an integral member of the Lunchtime Team, helping to ensure that lunchtime is safe, positive and well organised for all pupils.

The working hours for this role are 11.30am – 1.30pm during school term-time plus one INSET Day in September for safeguarding training.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has experience of working with children and supporting a range of individual needs
  • can build positive and supportive relationships with pupils
  • is patient, calm, resilient and able to respond positively to pupils who may become dysregulated
  • is able to adapt their communication and approach according to individual need
  • is willing to provide personal or intimate care where required
  • works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with colleagues
  • understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Experience of working with pupils with SEND, including providing 1:1 or small-group support, would be particularly welcomed.

We can offer:

  • a friendly, supportive and welcoming Federation
  • the opportunity to make a real difference to pupils who benefit from additional support and continuity
  • the opportunity to work alongside experienced and skilled staff
  • appropriate training and professional development
  • support from our Lunchtime, SEND and Leadership Teams
  • children who are at the heart of everything we do.
