Semi-Senior Accountant

Semi-Senior Accountant | 8 Partner Firm | Braintree

Are you an ambitious AAT qualified or ACA/ACCA trainee accountant looking to accelerate your professional development within a highly respected regional practice? Are you seeking a versatile, candidate-focused role that offers direct exposure to complex accounts preparation, corporate tax, management reporting, and audit field work, alongside structured study support and early-finish Fridays?

As a Semi-Senior Accountant based in Braintree, you will join an established and expanding Accounts department delivering end-to-end accounting, statutory, and tax compliance solutions to a dynamic client base. Working alongside experienced Senior Managers and Partners, you will take ownership of draft statutory accounts, balance sheet analytical reviews, and VAT controls, while mentoring junior accounts trainees and taking on increasing responsibility as you progress towards full qualification.

Known for its technical expertise, supportive learning environment, and long-standing client relationships, the practice provides comprehensive financial reporting, taxation, audit, and strategic business support to entrepreneurial sole traders, partnerships, and growing corporate groups. Responsibilities

• Prepare draft annual statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies under FRS 102 (1a) and FRS 105.

• Conduct comprehensive analytical reviews of balance sheets and profit & loss accounts, providing clear diagnostic commentary for reviewing Managers.

• Prepare draft corporate tax computations and statutory disclosure checklists for manager review.

• Review VAT return schedules, ensure MTD compliance, and advise clients on upcoming tax liabilities.

• Produce management accounts, cash flow analyses, and financial control schedules, highlighting key operational ratios and trends.

• Perform key audit testing procedures, including bank, sales/purchases, fixed assets, debtors, and creditors testing under Audit Manager supervision.

• Review accounting work completed by Accounts Assistants, delivering constructive feedback and on-the-job technical training.
