Job Introduction

Team Manager

Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall ·

£29,500 a year ·

Full-time, permanent ·

40 hours a week ·

Based in Truro, covering Mid & West Cornwall

Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall provides care at home across Mid & West Cornwall, helping people stay safe, well and independent in the place they love most. We are rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, and our Support Workers deliver everything from 1 hour visits and companionship through to live-in care and complex health needs.

Role Overview

This is a varied role at the heart of our care team, split between the community and the office. Part of your week will be spent out in the community, covering care shifts on the rota and supporting customers yourself. The rest of your time will be spent leading the team: carrying out supervisions, spot checks and observations, and supporting the Area Manager, who you will report to. You will also spend time in our Truro office, keeping records up to date, reviewing care plans and helping to keep our standards high. Depending on the needs of the business, you may also work across our different services, which brings even more variety to the role.

This role matters because good care depends on good leadership, and the best leaders know the work first-hand. Because you will still be with customers yourself, you will understand exactly what our Support Workers face each day. That makes your guidance practical, your feedback fair and your support real.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead by example, both in customers’ homes and behind the scenes:

  • Cover care shifts on the rota, delivering safe, person-centred care
  • Supervise, support and monitor a team of Support Workers, making sure care is delivered to a high standard
  • Carry out regular supervisions, spot checks, observations and performance reviews
  • Guide and mentor Support Workers in their roles and their development
  • Make sure care plans are followed, and updated when a customer’s needs change
  • Help with assessments, care plan reviews and risk assessments
  • Audit care records, medication charts and care notes so our records stay accurate
  • Respond to concerns and incidents promptly, with openness and a focus on learning
  • Make sure we meet CQC regulations and our own quality standards
  • Build good relationships with customers, their families and other professionals
  • Take part in the on-call rota, shared across the team

Behind every task is a person. One day you might be supporting a customer with their morning routine; the next you might be sitting with a new Support Worker after a difficult visit, or making sure a customer’s care plan keeps up with their changing needs. It is a role for someone who loves hands-on care, sets a high standard, and wants to help others do it well.

What you get

  • £29,500 a year for 40 hours a week
  • Mileage paid at 35p per mile
  • Blue Light Card membership, paid for by us
  • Wellbeing support
  • Reward schemes, including Support Worker of the Month, Annual Staff Awards, and Refer a Friend
  • Support to complete your Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care if you do not already have it
  • A step into leadership without leaving the care you enjoy
  • A friendly, supportive team who know that looking after our staff is at the heart of good care

Essential

  • Experience of working in care at home or in a community care setting
  • A Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or a willingness to work towards it
  • A good understanding of person-centred care and regulatory standards
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Reliable and well organised, able to manage changing priorities
  • Confident working alone and making decisions
  • Willingness to take part in the on-call rota
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle

Desirable

  • Previous supervisory or team-leading experience
  • An understanding of homecare & live-in care
