Mechanical Project Manager (Subcontract / Freelance)
Site Based – Prison Project, North of Northampton
£350–£450 per day (DOE)
Duration: Circa 18 Months

Mechanical Project Manager – Long-Term Freelance Opportunity

We are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Project Manager on a subcontract basis to oversee the mechanical package on a major prison project located north of Northampton.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-term project and take ownership of mechanical delivery through construction and final handover.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing and coordinating all mechanical aspects of the project, ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme, and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the mechanical package from installation through to completion
• Coordinating subcontractors and site teams
• Driving programme and monitoring progress against key milestones
• Managing QA/QC and ensuring works meet specification
• Leading health & safety standards across mechanical activities
• Attending and leading coordination and client meetings
• Managing procurement, technical queries, and project reporting
• Supporting successful commissioning and project handover

Site Presence Requirement

This role is fully site based and will require the successful candidate to be present on site throughout the delivery of the project. We are seeking someone who is comfortable operating in a hands-on project management capacity and maintaining a visible presence with site teams and stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience delivering projects as a Mechanical Project Manager
• Strong MEP / Building Services background
• Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating site operations
• Ability to manage programme, quality, and project delivery
• SMSTS preferred
• Valid CSCS and relevant mechanical qualifications
• Experience within secure, public sector, custodial, healthcare, defence, or similarly regulated environments would be advantageous
