Overseas Volunteer 2-3 Weeks | Cambodia | Pro Bono | Volunteer A medical NGO in Cambodia is seeking an volunteer accountant to oversee preparation of its year-end financial statements and provide targeted capacity-building support to its Finance Manager. #112 Express Interest

Our partner is a Cambodian medical NGO providing specialist ear and hearing healthcare to children and adults across the country. Established more than 20 years ago, it operates four clinics, delivers rural outreach services and works with a wide network of aid organisations, hospitals and schools.

AfID has supported the organisation through a number of remote and in-country placements over the years, with a strong focus on building the skills and confidence of its Finance Manager.

She is now at the point where she is expected to prepare the annual financial statements independently, with the next volunteer providing experienced oversight, review and guidance rather than preparing the accounts on her behalf.

Alongside the year-end review, the organisation would like to continue developing her wider financial management and strategic finance skills.

Key areas of support are likely to include:

• Reviewing and checking the annual financial statements
• Providing guidance on the year-end process
• Strengthening cashflow forecasting and financial modelling
• Supporting financial sustainability and cost-recovery planning
• Building knowledge around grant management, restricted funds and donor compliance
• Reviewing internal controls, procurement and segregation of duties
• Strengthening strategic financial reporting for senior management and the Board
• Supporting the Finance Manager to develop a more strategic, CFO-style approach
• If time permits, reviewing the Financial Procedures Manual

This is primarily a capacity-building and mentoring placement, working closely alongside an increasingly capable Finance Manager and providing an experienced second pair of eyes.

The placement will be based in Phnom Penh, with an expected duration of around 2–3 weeks.
