About the role
OrganOx is seeking to fill an Electronics Design Engineer job in Oxford to support the design, development, and ongoing enhancement of electronic systems used within its advanced medical devices. This position covers the complete electronics development lifecycle, from initial concept through to manufacturing transfer, ensuring all designs comply with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. Experience with Altium Designer would be highly beneficial.
This is an on-site position based at the company’s Oxford facility, providing the opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, quality, and regulatory functions while also carrying out design activities remotely when appropriate.
Key ResponsibilitiesWorking under the guidance of the Principal Electronics Engineer, the Electronics Design Engineer will:
- Design and develop electronic circuits and PCB layouts with a strong emphasis on reliability, manufacturability, and safety.
- Produce schematics and PCB designs, with experience using Altium Designer considered advantageous.
- Carry out component selection and perform design calculations to satisfy performance requirements.
- Execute design verification and validation activities in accordance with IEC 60601 and other relevant standards.
- Collaborate closely with software, systems, and mechanical engineers to ensure successful integration of electronic subsystems.
- Support prototype assembly activities, fault finding, debugging, and issue resolution.
- Generate and maintain accurate design documentation throughout the development process.
- Participate in technical reviews and contribute to ongoing product improvements.
- Assist with manufacturing transfer activities and engage with suppliers relating to electronic components and assemblies.
- Uphold OrganOx’s Code of Conduct and comply with all company policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proven commercial experience in electronics design.
- Previous exposure to regulated industries, with medical device experience being particularly desirable.
- Strong understanding of both analogue and digital electronic circuit design.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, preferably Altium Designer.
- Knowledge of design-for-manufacture principles and EMC considerations.
- Practical experience using electronic test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and spectrum analysers.
- Familiarity with standards such as ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and IEC 62304 would be advantageous.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel, estimated at up to 5%.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
