Cloud Engineer job in Reading or Havant – £50K to £75K + Bonus
SSE is looking for a Cloud Engineer to join its central Cloud Engineering team, supporting the ongoing digital transformation of the business. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of cloud services, helping to deliver modern infrastructure and automation capabilities across the organisation.
Working across a variety of cloud platforms and services, you will help build scalable, resilient, and efficient solutions while supporting the migration of applications to the cloud. The position provides exposure to a broad range of infrastructure projects and technologies, making it an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to work at the forefront of cloud transformation.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs part of a collaborative engineering team, you will work alongside architects, strategists, and technical specialists to deliver solutions that support SSE’s business objectives.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with product owners and management teams to support demand planning and deliver against project backlogs.
- Designing and developing automation frameworks, self-service capabilities, and deployment pipelines using modern cloud engineering practices.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement across engineering, operations, and delivery processes.
- Supporting stakeholders in adopting cloud-native application architectures to deliver scalable, highly available, and resilient solutions.
- Acting as a trusted technical advisor, providing progress updates and escalating issues where necessary.
- Ensuring cloud infrastructure and architecture align with current security standards and software lifecycle best practices.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong understanding of either Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure and experience with cloud-native architectures.
- A cloud certification in AWS or Azure would be advantageous, although not essential.
- Experience administering Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a good understanding of operational support processes.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycles and the ability to program or script in at least one language such as Python, Go, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and configuration management technologies including Ansible or Puppet.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
