Support Engineer job in Southampton – DOE

Ordnance Survey (OS), Great Britain’s national mapping agency and a global leader in geospatial technology, is seeking a Support Engineer to join its Technology Support Team in Southampton. This role focuses on supporting and enhancing critical ETL services that power the organisation’s customer data delivery platforms. Working within an Agile environment, you’ll combine software engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to improve service reliability, resilience, security, and performance.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining cloud-based services, automating deployments, implementing infrastructure improvements, enhancing observability and monitoring, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and contributing to DevSecOps initiatives. The role offers exposure to a modern technology stack including Azure, Python, C#, Databricks, Bicep, Azure DevOps, and geospatial technologies.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Experience supporting and maintaining complex cloud-based services, ideally within Microsoft Azure environments
• Strong background in software engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, or test automation
• Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and operational best practices
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, ideally Bicep
• Proficiency in Python and/or C#
• Experience with Azure services including App Services, Function Apps, Data Factory, Azure ML, and Entra ID
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Git, YAML, PowerShell, and automation tooling
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
• Experience improving service reliability, observability, monitoring, and security
• Ability to mentor colleagues and provide technical consultancy across teams
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable Experience:

• Azure Databricks
• Power BI
• Geospatial technologies such as ESRI ArcGIS, FME, or QGIS
• DevSecOps methodologies
• Agile delivery environments
