About the role

Full-Stack Engineer

  • Kings cross, London
  • £85,000–£105,000
  • 5x Positions

We're hiring Full-Stack Engineers to build Descrial end to end, from the database to the interface. Our clients trust us with confidential financial data, so security, tenant isolation, auditability and a polished experience are engineering constraints, not extras.

You'll work in TypeScript and React on the front end, Python (FastAPI or Django) on the back end and PostgreSQL on AWS. This role is part of a nine-person engineering cohort being hired across full-stack, front-end and back-end.

About Descrial

Descrial is a startup inside a twenty-year-old company

TresVista has run the analytical work behind private capital since 2006. 2,000 people, 400+ clients including some of the biggest names in the industry, no outside capital and no outside board. That was the first chapter. And we enjoyed getting here!

The next chapter is harder and more interesting

We are moving from services to software, from one firm's workflows to an industry's, and from executing investment decisions to shaping how they get made. Thirty of us in King's Cross, small and senior, with day one founder intensity.

At its fullest expression, Descrial changes how every serious investment firm decides.

The role

You report to the Head of Engineering and join the UK core team. You own features from schema to screen, set technical direction where it matters and ship in short cycles with product managers, designers, QA and our client-facing teams.

Your remit

The product surfaces

You build data-heavy interfaces in TypeScript and React, making sound choices on server or client rendering and on state management with Redux, Zustand, TanStack Query or similar. You turn product requirements and Figma designs into accessible, consistent UI and help grow a shared component library. The interface respects a detailed role- and permission-based access model, and real-time views over WebSockets handle loading, empty, error and stale-data states with care.

The services and data

You design and build REST services in async Python with FastAPI or Django and Pydantic, with clear OpenAPI contracts and backwards-compatible changes. You model domain data in PostgreSQL, covering schema design, migrations, indexing, query tuning and multi-tenant isolation, and use Redis and OpenSearch or Elasticsearch where they fit. You build event-driven and background processing with queues such as SQS or Celery, including retries, idempotency, search indexing, audit events and notifications.

You implement authentication and authorisation end to end: SSO, OTP, session and JWT handling, and role-based checks on every request. Security and compliance (SOC 2, UK GDPR) shape the work: tenant isolation, least-privilege access, audit logging and secure file handling. You build integrations with the systems our clients use, such as Microsoft 365 through the Graph API (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint), CRMs, HR systems and document stores, using OAuth and careful secrets handling.

The AI experience

You work with the AI/ML team to bring LLM-powered features into the product. You build the Python layer between the product and our AI services, including streaming responses, document processing endpoints and safe access for AI agents to internal services through MCP. You design the experience around AI output so investment professionals can trust and audit it, with source citations, clear provenance, edit and approve flows, feedback capture and graceful failure handling.

The quality and delivery

You write well-tested code (unit, component and end-to-end), take part in thorough code review and keep the CI/CD quality gates healthy. You own front-end performance for what you ship. You deploy and operate services on AWS with containers and Kubernetes, S3, SQS and EventBridge, instrument them with logs, metrics and traces, and help fix production issues.

Your experience

  • 5+ years in software engineering, with real full-stack ownership of features in production.
  • Strong TypeScript and React.
  • Strong Python backend experience with FastAPI or Django in production.
  • Strong PostgreSQL data modelling and SQL, using SQLAlchemy and Alembic, the Django ORM or similar.
  • Have built authentication and access control in a multi-tenant B2B product.
  • Experience with AWS or a comparable cloud, CI/CD and containers.
  • Track record of setting technical direction and leading architecture decisions.
  • Use of AI coding tools daily, such as Cursor or Claude Code and have a considered view of where they help.
  • Degree in engineering, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Useful to have, none required

  • Next.js and Node.js (TypeScript) in production
  • An eye for layout, visual hierarchy and interaction, and sound UX judgement when there is no designer in the loop
  • Product features built on LLMs, including model APIs, streaming, LangChain or LangGraph, and MCP
  • Background task queues, real-time features, Redis and OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
  • Java/Spring Boot, Kubernetes or Terraform
  • SOC 2, regulated environments or financial-services products

The reality

This will be difficult.

It demands pace and accuracy. We are building autonomous systems inside high-stakes live businesses, where decisions carry real consequences and impact and waiting for everyone to agree is not always an option.

The systems will sometimes get things wrong. In this phase the London team needs to create the evaluations, visibilities and safeguards that catch mistakes early, reducing them over time and stopping the same failures happening again.

If you want to build the foundations of an enterprise grade technology platform to service a multi-billion $ serviceable market opportunity, and share in that growth, this is your chance to join us.

In our conversations

Come ready to discuss three pieces of work:

  • A feature you owned end to end, from schema to interface, and the trade-offs you made.
  • A tenant, permission or authentication boundary you implemented and tested.
  • A production quality, performance or reliability problem you diagnosed across the stack and fixed.

Compensation

The all-inclusive package is typically £85,000–£105,000 a year, depending on experience.

Practical details

  • King's Cross, London. In office (3 to 5 days a week), with colleagues in London and Bengaluru.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • We aim to finish the process within three weeks. Tell us if you need an adjustment to the interviews.
  • Descrial is an equal opportunity employer.
