This exciting opportunity will allow you to inspire and educate students in the wonderful world of horticulture, from plant biology and sustainability to landscape design and gardening techniques. You will have the opportunity to nurture students’ interest in horticulture, developing both practical and theoretical skills for a future in the green industry.

As a Horticulture Teacher, you will play a key role in delivering engaging and interactive lessons, ensuring students are provided with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue careers in agriculture, horticulture, or land management. You will be teaching students of various ages and backgrounds, encouraging them to develop a sustainable approach to growing plants and caring for the environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess horticulture lessons for a diverse range of students, ensuring lessons are engaging, relevant, and aligned with the curriculum.
  • Teach practical horticulture skills, including planting, pruning, propagation, soil management, and pest control.
  • Incorporate sustainable gardening practices, environmental awareness, and biodiversity into your lessons.
  • Develop and implement practical projects, such as school gardens or landscaping initiatives, where students can apply their learning.
  • Monitor and support the progress of individual students, providing feedback and guidance to help them reach their potential.
  • Maintain and manage horticulture equipment and materials to ensure a safe and efficient learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of horticulture-related extracurricular activities, such as gardening clubs or school events.
  • Collaborate with other teaching staff and stakeholders to ensure a well-rounded and effective horticulture curriculum.

Key Requirements:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential.
  • Proven experience teaching or working in horticulture, with a strong knowledge of plant care, garden management, and sustainability.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Passion for environmental education and sustainability.
  • A commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to make a lasting impact on students and help them develop valuable, practical skills for their future careers.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Access to continuous professional development opportunities.
  • A chance to work in a school that values sustainability and environmental education.
