About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview of the role

As a Senior Project Manager in the Rail division, you will lead the delivery of feasibility studies, design and related professional services for UK rail clients, including transport authorities, design-and-build (D&B) contractors and rolling stock manufacturers.

Working within a team of 40 project management professionals, you will manage projects delivered by multidisciplinary technical teams. Infrastructure work ranges from small renewals of around £100,000 to major D&B schemes exceeding £3 million, covering stations, bridges, accessibility upgrades, track, signalling, telecommunications, electrification and plant, traction power, overhead catenary and tunnel systems. Rolling stock projects typically involve new fleet procurement or fleet life extension. Most projects also include systems engineering and assurance.

You will work within a matrix structure, reporting professionally to the Head of Discipline for Project Management and, for each assignment, to the relevant Project Principal within your client portfolio.

We contribute to many of the UK’s largest and most complex rail projects, providing a strong environment for career development. Senior Project Managers who deliver positive outcomes for clients, colleagues and the business can progress to Project Principal roles, supervising other project managers, or move into flagship projects in the UK or internationally.

  • Proven experience managing project change, including administration, negotiation and close-out
  • A degree in project management, engineering or a related discipline
