Surfacing Multi Skilled Operative

Job Introduction

Are you an experienced Surfacing Multi Skilled Operative looking for your next challenge with one of London's leading civil engineering contractors? Do you enjoy a varied role where no two days are the same, combining surfacing operations, plant operation, material deliveries and supporting major infrastructure projects across the capital?

At JB Riney, we have been delivering high-quality civil engineering and highway maintenance solutions across Greater London for nearly 40 years. Built on a reputation for reliability, local expertise, innovation and exceptional customer service, we work in partnership with local authorities and councils to help keep London's road network moving.

We are currently looking for a Surfacing Multi Skilled Operative to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in delivering high standards and wants to develop a broad range of skills across surfacing, transport and site operations.

As part of our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace, we welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Surfacing Multi Skilled Operative, you'll play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of surfacing and highway projects across London. Working closely with Forepersons, Supervisors and operational teams, you'll help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting surfacing activities and working with the wider site team to deliver planned programmes of work.
  • Operating surfacing and construction plant, including pavers, rollers and other associated equipment.
  • Assisting in the achievement of daily and weekly production targets.
  • Ensuring materials, equipment and site resources are available and maintained to support operations.
  • Carrying out vehicle and plant inspections, reporting defects and supporting remedial actions.
  • Delivering materials and equipment between depots and operational sites.
  • Removing spoil and supporting site logistics activities.
  • Contributing to winter maintenance operations when required.
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, quality and customer service.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, customers and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Following all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures and promoting a zero-harm culture.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and helping maintain a safe and compliant working environment.

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for a reliable, safety-conscious and hardworking individual who has experience within the surfacing, highways, asphalt or civil engineering sector and is keen to broaden their skills within a multi-disciplinary role.

To be successful, you'll ideally have:

  • Experience working within the asphalt, surfacing, highways or civil engineering industry.
  • Practical experience laying asphalt materials and supporting surfacing operations.
  • A good understanding of site Health & Safety requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Experience operating plant and machinery associated with surfacing activities.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work effectively within a team environment.
  • A flexible approach to working patterns, including days, nights and occasional weekends.
  • Excellent time management and a proactive attitude to problem solving.
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of workmanship and customer service.
