About the role
As a Complex Care Assistant with Smeaton Healthcare you will provide skilled, person-centred care to people with complex health needs living in their own homes. Working under clear care plans and with clinical oversight, you will deliver both personal care and delegated healthcare tasks for which you have been trained and signed off as competent, enabling people with significant health conditions to live safely at home.

Key responsibilities
• Deliver personal care with dignity and respect, tailored to each person’s complex needs.
• Carry out delegated healthcare tasks ONLY where trained and assessed as competent – which may include PEG feeding, tracheostomy care, suction, catheter and stoma care, ventilator awareness and epilepsy medication – in line with the care plan and clinical guidance.
• Administer and record medication accurately in line with the care plan, your training and company policy.
• Monitor and record health observations, recognising and escalating deterioration promptly using agreed escalation routes.
• Use specialist equipment safely (hoists, profiling beds, feeding pumps) as trained.
• Support communication, wellbeing, routines and meaningful activity throughout longer care packages.
• Keep clear, accurate, contemporaneous care records and handovers.
• Work closely with families, nurses, therapists and other professionals in the person’s multidisciplinary team.
• Follow all Smeaton Healthcare policies, including safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and confidentiality.

About you
• Calm, observant and dependable, with a genuine commitment to high-quality care.
• Willing to complete enhanced clinical-task training and competency sign-off (full training provided).
• Confident keeping detailed records and escalating concerns.
• Able to work flexibly, including some evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Contract types available: Zero Hours
Role requirements: Experience Required

• Values & Behaviours: Calm, patient and observant; committed to dignity, privacy and person-centred care; resilient and dependable on long shifts; honest and open (duty of candour).
• Qualifications & Training: Care Certificate achieved or willing to achieve during induction; willing to complete enhanced clinical-task training with competency sign-off (e.g. PEG feeding, tracheostomy care, suction, catheter/stoma care, epilepsy medication) before performing any delegated task; all mandatory training.
• Experience: Some experience of care work (paid or unpaid).
• Knowledge: Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and when and how to escalate a deterioration in health.
• Skills & Abilities: Accurate record keeping and observation skills; able to follow detailed clinical care plans exactly; confident communicating with nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team; competent with specialist equipment once trained.

• Workplace pension – automatic enrolment with employer contributions, in line with the Pensions Act 2008.
• Paid annual leave – Paid holiday built up in hours based on the hours you work (equivalent to 5.6 weeks a year, including bank holidays), in line with the Working Time Regulations 1998.
• Paid training and development – full induction aligned to the Care Certificate, paid mandatory training, and support towards Level 2/3/4 Diplomas in Adult Care.
