About the role
Your team: You will be joining the News UK Data team as we embark on an exciting chapter of data growth. Our teams support the business in broadening data-informed decision making and experiences, collaborating with Agile teams in London, Sofia, and Bangalore responsible for the collection, ingestion, utilisation, and warehousing of data across the business. Together, we enrich our data assets through machine learning and AI to deliver industry-leading insight tools, consumer-facing AI features, and dynamic data products.
Your role: As a Senior Data Architect, you will serve as a senior technical leader to bring clarity, consistency, and efficiency across our data organisation. You will lead and mentor a team of data architects and analytics engineers while staying hands-on with solution design, prototyping, and execution to accelerate data-powered product growth.
Day to day you will:
-
Provide technical guidance across the team, overseeing the design and implementation of scalable, performant, and cost-effective data solutions.
-
Lead a team of data architects and analytics engineers, setting clear objectives and establishing consistent, collaborative ways of working.
-
Develop and prototype data solutions hands-on, maintaining direct involvement in coding and technical execution to ensure high-quality delivery.
-
Maintain data architecture principles, standards, data modelling techniques, and quality benchmarks across all projects.
-
Collaborate with key stakeholders across business intelligence, advertising, and newsroom teams to translate business requirements into robust technical architectures.
-
Design tailored data solutions, data marts, APIs, and activation data flows that integrate seamlessly with CDPs, DMPs, and BI tools like Tableau and Looker.
-
Partner with Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Data Platforms teams to ensure efficient, secure solution implementation aligned with enterprise standards.
What we're looking for from you:
-
Demonstrable technical leadership skills, with a track record of developing talent, managing multidisciplinary technical teams, and fostering accountability.
-
Proven technical background in end-to-end data solution delivery using BigQuery and GCP products, backed by advanced SQL proficiency, stored procedures, and data modelling expertise.
-
Strategic problem-solving abilities to translate complex business needs into scalable, maintainable data structures and streamlined workflows.
-
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, demonstrated by your ability to build trusted relationships across business intelligence, advertising, and newsroom units.
-
Clear and effective communication skills, enabling you to produce high-quality requirements and documentation that eliminate cross-timezone friction between onshore and offshore delivery teams.
