The Development and the Alumni Office has recently been restructured to ensure that it is in the best place to realise its new 2034 Masterplan. 2034 is the School’s centenary and the leadership team, Board and key stakeholders are committed to ensuring that when Gordonstoun reaches that key anniversary that it will be ready to take the School into its next century with its overarching objectives met.

You will principally be working with the Head of Development, the part time Alumni Officer and the Development and Gordonstoun Alumni Administrator. These individuals hold strong relationships with the alumni and donors at all levels and you will benefit from these strong connections and focused introductions.

This year’s Telephone Campaign, supported by Buffalo, was remarkably successful and the Development Officer will be able to build on this to make 2020’s planned first ever Gordonstoun Giving Day a great success.

The role also involves working closely with colleagues from across the School including the leadership and the Board to ensure that all fundraising projects are fully developed and are ready for the fundraising market. Due to the emphasis on developing external support for the School, the role holder may be required to work out with normal office hours and undertake some travel on behalf of the School, both in the UK and internationally.

“Plus Est En Vous – There Is More In You”

The Gordonstoun motto is as relevant today as it was when Kurt Hahn, founder of Gordonstoun, created it.

He believed that young people flourish when their horizons are broadened beyond just their academic potential. He set out to develop the qualities of compassion, honesty, initiative, a thirst for adventure and a sense of service to others in them. His intention was not just to prepare his students for exams, but also for life.

At Gordonstoun, they believe that a broader curriculum broadens not only minds but opportunities too. It is a belief that has served both the school and the students well for over 80 years and that has made Gordonstoun the world leader in character education. Their curriculum, which is unrivalled in breadth, helps every child to achieve their full potential.

This approach to character education is still achieved at Gordonstoun by combining inspiring classroom learning with an exciting and richly varied range of out of classroom learning experiences. These widely differing challenges instil a can-do attitude in their pupils and give them the ability to adapt to new situations quickly and confidently; skills which are essential in later life.

The students live in a close knit community that is one third Scottish, one third from the rest of the UK and one third from the rest of the world, so they live and work alongside others from over forty countries. Consequently they are diverse in culture, faith, aptitude and background and the school takes pride in it’s global community and the opportunity it brings to develop a deep and accepting understanding of people from all walks of life and all nations.

Are you looking to take your fundraising career to the next level? We have an exciting opportunity with one of the most prestigious private schools in the UK. Gordonstoun are looking for an ambitious individual to work in the newly re-structured Development Office. The Development Officer is a key post and will be responsible for working with the team to generate income for key School initiatives. The school motto is ‘Plus est en Vous’ – ‘There is more in You’ which relates to all staff as well as students, challenging people to  stretch themselves beyond what they may think that they are capable of.

The postholder will primarily take the lead on developing and managing the regular giving programmes – including the telephone campaign; identifying, developing and managing a portfolio of prospects, including individuals, trusts and foundations and other statutory funding bodies with the aim of raising philanthropic income including legacy pledges.  We are also looking for someone whose happy place is working with the CRM to manage and analyse data as it relates to the successful management of all fundraising activities. Gordonstoun has contracted Cairney & Co, a company of consultants with a global footprint, to help them drive forward their ambitious plans so you will have access to excellent advice and support.

This is a truly exciting time to be joining the team, working to successfully deliver a two-phase major capital appeal to celebrate its centenary in 2034 including the redevelopment of the campus and securing additional funding for the Prince Philip Gordonstoun Foundation;  this programme has been recognised as one of the largest bursary programmes in UK Independent Schools, supporting over a third of students including many free places.

Gordonstoun is welcoming, diverse and committed to personal and community development opportunities. Why not come on board?
