About the role

Sophia at Avocet Legal Careers is pleased to present an excellent opportunity for a Residential Conveyancer to join a highly respected and long-established law firm in the heart of Tavistock.

This is an excellent opportunity to manage a quality caseload, build genuine client relationships, and work in a firm that truly values your contribution.

About the Client

Our client is a well-regarded law firm with a proud history and a loyal client base spanning West Devon, South East Cornwall and beyond. With a reputation built on trust, expertise and genuinely personal service, this is a firm that puts quality and relationships above volume targets.

About the Role

You will manage your own residential conveyancing caseload with the support of experienced colleagues and three highly skilled Legal Secretaries, allowing you to focus on delivering excellent client service rather than administration. The role is primarily office-based in Tavistock, with some flexibility and hybrid working available where appropriate.

Residential Conveyancer Responsibilities

  • Managing your own caseload of residential conveyancing matters from instruction to completion, including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, registered and unregistered land, re-mortgages, transfers of equity, easements, plot sales and deeds of gift
  • Delivering a high standard of client care with a personal, relationship-focused approach
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and referrers
  • Taking responsibility for billing, file management and compliance with SRA and CQS standards
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the firm and contributing to the growth of the department

Residential Conveyancer Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive
  • Experience managing a residential conveyancing caseload independently
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Confident client-facing manner and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable

  • 3–5 years' PQE
  • CQS accreditation
  • Experience with case management systems
  • Experience supervising or mentoring others
  • Full, clean driving licence

Benefits

  • Salary of £65,000–£70,000 depending on experience
  • 28 days annual leave including Bank Holidays, rising to 33 days with service
  • Pension scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Ongoing professional development and career progression
  • Supportive, people-first culture with realistic expectations

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Residential Conveyancer who is ready to step away from volume-driven work and into a role where quality, client relationships and job satisfaction come first. You'll be confident managing your own caseload, take pride in your client care, and be looking for a firm where your expertise is genuinely valued and your career can develop long term.
