At Sodexo, we’re looking for a skilled and motivated Electrician to join our maintenance team at HMP Altcourse. This is an opportunity to put your electrical expertise to work in a unique environment, helping to maintain safe, reliable and efficient electrical systems while supporting the smooth running of the establishment.

Working alongside the Maintenance Team Leader and other skilled trades, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality electrical maintenance, repairs and installations, ensuring all work meets current safety standards and regulatory requirements.

What you'll do

• Carry out electrical repairs, installations and preventative maintenance across the establishment.
• Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections and testing of electrical systems, fixtures and equipment.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently, ensuring electrical systems remain safe and operational.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, test results and repairs, identifying and reporting defective equipment.
• Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant legislation, industry standards and the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
• Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota, responding to maintenance emergencies as required.
• Escort specialist contractors and assist with their work where necessary.
• Work collaboratively with the Maintenance Team Leader and other trades to achieve operational objectives.
• Promote a positive Health and Safety culture, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.

What you'll bring

• A recognised electrical qualification and a sound working knowledge of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
• Proven experience in electrical fault-finding, installation, maintenance and repairs.
• Experience in electrical testing, inspection and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
• A good understanding of Health and Safety requirements and safe systems of work.
• The ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and manage your workload effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, proactive approach to maintenance.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable experience: Knowledge of commercial electrical systems, including HVAC, Air Handling Units (AHUs), controls and Building Management Systems (BMS), would be an advantage.
