As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with SEN
- Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and classroom activities
- Supporting children with Autism/ASD and other additional needs
- Supporting children with communication, social and emotional needs
- Helping pupils remain engaged and focused during lessons
- Supporting with challenging behaviour using a calm and consistent approach
- Encouraging pupils' independence, confidence and development
- Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team
- Creating a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment
- Adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of each pupil
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will ideally have:
- Previous experience working within a primary school setting
- Experience supporting children with SEN
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism/ASD is highly desirable
- Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour
- A patient, calm and nurturing approach
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A reliable, flexible and professional attitude
- A strong school-based reference
