Introduction

Join a leading neurorehabilitation service as a Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, providing innovative and high-quality care to individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI). This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team and deliver impactful care.

About the Service:

Located in Birmingham, the facility specializes in supporting individuals with cognitive, physical, and emotional challenges resulting from severe brain injuries. Using a neurobehavioral approach, the service focuses on enabling patients to regain independence and participate in meaningful activities.

Responsibilities:

Assessment and Intervention:

Conduct specialist assessments for communication and swallowing challenges.
Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans, addressing cognitive and social communication needs.
Provide therapeutic interventions to enhance communication skills and overcome barriers.

Collaboration and Training:

Work with families, social networks, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Deliver training sessions for staff and service users' networks to build capacity and understanding.
Contribute to the development of service protocols and procedures.

Leadership:

Provide strategic leadership to the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
Supervise and mentor junior therapists to ensure the highest standards of care.
Participate in service development initiatives to improve patient care and organizational growth.

Requirements:

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with HCPC registration.
Dysphagia competencies and expertise in ABI-specific interventions (e.g., social communication, cognitive communication).
Proven ability to manage complex dysphagia cases within an adult neurology caseload.
Minimum of 4 years of qualified experience, including complex case management.
