The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of their usual teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and complete the work provided.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supervising classes across Key Stages 3 and 4 in secondary schools.

• Delivering pre-prepared lessons and ensuring students understand the work set.

• Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment.

• Encouraging students to remain focused, engaged and motivated.

• Supporting students with their learning and answering general questions where appropriate.

• Following school policies and procedures, including behaviour management and safeguarding.

• Building positive professional relationships with students and school staff.

• Managing classroom routines and ensuring lessons run smoothly.

• Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement, behaviour and completed work.

• Supporting students with additional learning needs where required.

• Adapting confidently to different classrooms, subjects and school environments.

You will not be expected to plan or prepare lessons, as work will already be provided by the school.

• Are reliable, enthusiastic and committed to supporting young people's education.

• Can follow instructions and work effectively as part of a school team.

• Have a genuine interest in education and supporting student development.

Relevant Experience Could Include:

• Cover Supervisor or Classroom Supervisor

• Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant

• Sports Coach or Activity Leader

• Youth Worker or Youth Mentor

• Graduate considering a career in teaching

• Tutor or Academic Mentor

• SEN/SEMH Support Worker

• Children's Residential Support Worker

• Learning and Development or Training Roles

Previous Cover Supervisor experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills who are confident working with young people.

A teaching qualification is not required for this position.
