About the role

Senior / Managing Associate - Employment

Location: London (Hybrid Working)

A well-regarded UK law firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Managing Associate to join its established Employment team. This opportunity would suit an experienced employment lawyer looking to take on a visible role within a growing practice, with genuine scope for client contact, business development and progression.

The team advises a broad employer client base, including privately-owned businesses, corporates, senior executives and not-for-profit organisations, providing strategic employment law support across contentious and non-contentious matters.

The Opportunity

You will work closely with partners and colleagues across the wider firm, advising on a varied workload while taking responsibility for your own clients and matters. The role offers exposure to high-quality work, strong client interaction and the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of the practice.

Typical areas of work include:

  • Employment Tribunal litigation and workplace disputes
  • Disciplinary, grievance and performance management issues
  • Redundancy and restructuring projects
  • TUPE and business transfer matters
  • Employment aspects of corporate transactions
  • Executive exits and settlement agreements
  • HR advisory support and strategic employee relations issues
  • Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies and incentive arrangements

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising employer clients on a broad range of day-to-day and complex employment law matters
  • Running matters with an appropriate level of autonomy while delivering commercially focused advice
  • Building long-term relationships with clients and becoming a trusted adviser to key stakeholders
  • Supporting partners on larger projects, disputes and strategic mandates
  • Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers and trainees
  • Contributing to thought leadership, networking initiatives and profile-raising activities
  • Assisting with pitches, tenders and other business development opportunities
  • Maintaining strong financial management of matters, including budgeting, billing and recoveries

Candidate Profile

Applications are welcomed from employment solicitors who can demonstrate:

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with at least 5 years post-qualification experience gained within a respected regional, national or London law firm
  • Strong employer-side employment law experience
  • A mix of contentious and advisory employment work
  • Excellent client-handling and relationship management skills
  • Sound technical ability coupled with commercial awareness
  • Experience supervising junior team members or trainees
  • An interest in participating in business development and market-facing activities

Personal Attributes

The successful individual is likely to be:

  • Commercial and pragmatic in their approach
  • Comfortable building relationships both internally and externally
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Organised and capable of managing competing priorities
  • Motivated to contribute to the development of both clients and the wider practice
