At Montu, every prescription represents a patient waiting for treatment that can make a genuine difference to their quality of life. Our pharmacy is at the heart of everything we do, processing over 50,000 prescriptions each month, with continued month-on-month growth of approximately 10%. We are looking for an experienced Superintendent Pharmacist to take ownership of clinical governance, regulatory compliance and professional standards across our rapidly growing, digital-first pharmacy. This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone with extensive knowledge of GPhC standards, MHRA regulations and Controlled Drugs governance, who can provide clear regulatory direction and ensure the pharmacy continues to operate safely, compliantly and efficiently as the business grows. Working closely with the General Manager of Pharmacy, Medical Director and wider senior leadership team, this role will be instrumental in shaping pharmacy strategy, strengthening governance frameworks and ensuring regulatory readiness for future expansion. This is not a traditional Superintendent Pharmacist position. The scale, pace and complexity of the operation require someone who can balance rigorous professional standards with commercial awareness, operational efficiency and a genuine commitment to patient safety. What is the Job? The Superintendent Pharmacist will have overall responsibility for the clinical and regulatory governance of Montu Pharmacy, ensuring all pharmacy activities meet the required professional, legal and regulatory standards. The role requires a hands-on, knowledgeable and confident leader who can identify regulatory risks, provide clear guidance to operational teams and take ownership of regulatory inspections, audits and continuous improvement. Alongside day-to-day governance, there is an opportunity to influence the wider pharmacy strategy, evaluate new services, support business expansion and contribute to the development of pharmacy technology and automation. What You Will Own Clinical Governance and Regulatory Compliance Take overall responsibility for clinical governance and professional standards across Montu Pharmacy. Ensure compliance with GPhC standards, MHRA regulations and all relevant statutory and professional requirements. Act as the senior regulatory expert within the pharmacy, providing clear guidance and direction to clinical and operational teams. Lead regulatory inspections, audits and compliance reviews, ensuring the pharmacy remains inspection-ready. Identify, assess and manage regulatory risks, implementing appropriate corrective and preventative actions. Ensure pharmacy policies, procedures and governance frameworks remain current, effective and fit for purpose. Maintain oversight of professional accountability, patient safety and regulatory reporting requirements. Controlled Drugs Governance Oversee Controlled Drugs governance, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements. Ensure appropriate systems and controls are in place for the safe storage, handling, dispensing, recording and management of Controlled Drugs. Maintain accurate, auditable records and ensure appropriate monitoring and reconciliation processes are followed. Identify and address potential compliance risks, incidents or discrepancies. Support the development of scalable Controlled Drugs governance processes as prescription volumes increase. Professional Leadership and Team Development Provide professional and clinical leadership to a pharmacy workforce of over 100 people. Ensure pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and wider pharmacy teams maintain the required professional standards and competencies. Oversee competency frameworks, training requirements and ongoing professional development. Support pharmacy leaders in maintaining a culture of accountability, patient safety and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and support on complex clinical, professional and regulatory matters. Work collaboratively with operational leadership to maintain accuracy, efficiency and patient-centred care in a high-volume environment.
