About the role

Systems Designer – Electronic Security (Utilities & CNI)

Location: Kent, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire & Isle of Wight (with occasional Midlands and Yorkshire coverage)
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
Job Type: Permanent

About the Role

Are you an experienced Systems Designer looking for your next opportunity?

Technical Resources is partnering with a leading provider of electronic security solutions to regulated utility and critical national infrastructure environments to hire a Systems Designer. In this role, you will be responsible for surveying, designing, and pricing complex electronic security systems — including CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Detection, and PIDS — ensuring technically robust solutions are delivered on time and in compliance with relevant standards across a portfolio of high-profile CNI and utility sites.

This is an ideal opportunity to join an established organisation with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality physical security solutions across UK projects.

Key Responsibilities

Site Surveys & Dilapidation Reporting: Attend client sites to assess operational needs, identify physical and electronic security vulnerabilities, and produce detailed dilapidation reports for existing systems.
Security System Design: Produce compliant, technically robust designs for CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Detection, and PIDS — and occasionally fire alarm systems — tailored to regulated utility and CNI environments.
Technical Documentation: Create clear proposals, technical specifications, cost sheets, schematics, layout plans, elevations, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or equivalent tools.
Stakeholder & Supplier Liaison: Collaborate with clients, manufacturers, and suppliers to gather technical information, secure project pricing, and support bid and tender submissions with accurate technical input and estimates.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Reporting: Work closely with Sales, Operations, Projects, and Engineering teams to ensure designs are aligned with delivery requirements, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality & Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant NSI and British Standards, including BS EN 62676 and BS EN 50131, as well as the specific security considerations associated with CNI and regulated utility sites.

Experience & Qualifications Required

Essential:

Experience: Proven track record designing electronic security systems — CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Detection, and PIDS — within complex industrial, CNI, or regulated utility environments.
Technical Skills: Solid working knowledge of IP networking principles, system integration, and relevant standards (BS EN 62676, BS EN 50131); proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or equivalent CAD/diagramming tools; competence in producing specifications, schematics, and cost estimates.
Project/Operational Scope: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large-scale design projects concurrently, taking ownership from initial survey through to handover within agreed deadlines.
Soft Skills: Confident communicator with strong commercial awareness, capable of engaging effectively with senior client stakeholders and site-based operational teams alike; self-motivated and well organised.
Mobility & Eligibility: Full UK driving licence; willingness to travel across the UK with occasional overnight stays; Right to Work in the UK.

Desirable:

Certifications: FIA unit qualifications in fire detection and alarm system design; ECS card or equivalent industry certification.
Sector Background: Experience producing designs for tender or framework submissions; familiarity with BIM principles and tools; awareness of GDPR considerations in the context of security system design; formal qualification in electrical, electronic, or security systems engineering.

What We Offer

Competitive Base Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
Benefits Package: Pension scheme, company vehicle or travel allowance for regional and site-based travel, and a supportive package commensurate with a senior technical role in the utilities and CNI sector.
Clear career progression within a growing global sector.
