About the role

Assistant Producer – Lewisham People’s Day 2027

Client: Lewisham Council
Location: Laurence House, Catford, London, SE6 4RU, with hybrid working
Contract: Freelance, fixed-term – November 2026 to July/August 2027
Working Pattern: Part-time initially, increasing to full-time as the festival approaches

About the Role

Lewisham People’s Day is South-East London’s longest-running free festival, established in 1984. Returning to Mountsfield Park in July 2027, the festival previously attracted approximately 30,000 visitors in 2022.

Lewisham Council is seeking a highly organised and committed Assistant Producer to support the Lead Festival Producer in planning, coordinating and delivering this large-scale community festival.

You will work with council departments, community organisations, charities, local businesses, performers and technical event partners to ensure the festival programme and operational arrangements are delivered effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Festival Producer across all aspects of festival planning and delivery.
  • Help coordinate the festival programme across four zones, including stages, performers, community activities and stalls.
  • Source and coordinate stallholders, council departments, charities, sponsors, schools, businesses and food traders.
  • Maintain detailed spreadsheets tracking bookings, stall requirements, equipment, payments and programme information.
  • Liaise with the technical event production company regarding site layout, stall allocations, equipment and logistical requirements.
  • Coordinate stall fees, equipment charges, invoices, cost codes and internal council payments.
  • Act as a key point of contact for participating organisations and respond to enquiries.
  • Work with the Council Communications team on marketing materials and festival communications.
  • Support resident and local business liaison, volunteer coordination and community participation.
  • Contribute to partnership working with the People’s Day Advisory Group and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with on-site festival delivery on 10 July 2027 and post-event administration.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting the planning and delivery of medium-to-large-scale events or festivals.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven experience managing spreadsheets, multiple data sources and detailed records.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience coordinating suppliers, participants, bookings or event logistics.
  • Experience working to deadlines and supporting projects within agreed budgets.
  • Strong attention to detail and a confident, proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and sustainability.

Working Arrangements

The role is based at Laurence House in Catford, with hybrid working. The expected working commitment is:

  • November–December 2026: 3 days per week.
  • January–April 2027: 4 days per week.
  • May–festival delivery in July 2027: 5 days per week.
  • Post-festival: 2 days per week for approximately three weeks.

The initial three-day working week is expected to include two office days and one working-from-home day. The working arrangements for subsequent stages can be confirmed.

Local Connection

Candidates who live in the London Borough of Lewisham or have a genuine connection to the area are particularly encouraged to apply. This may include having grown up locally, attending school in Lewisham, having family in the borough or having previously worked there.

Interested?

If you have experience coordinating events, managing multiple stakeholders and supporting the delivery of large-scale festivals or community events, we would welcome your application.
