About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Assistant with Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) responsibilities to join our dedicated team at Fulbridge Academy.

At Fulbridge Academy, our overriding aim is to improve the lives of the children in our care. We do this by enabling them to enjoy learning and fulfil their potential, developing the resilience, curiosity, knowledge and skills they need to be successful in school and beyond.

There is a moral purpose and underlying rationale to all we do:

  • We ensure our curriculum is fit for purpose

  • Our pedagogy gives children the best possible chances to succeed

  • We value staff wellbeing and support a positive work-life balance

Our broad curriculum combines academic, creative and practical learning, with a strong focus on reading, oracy, writing and maths alongside children’s physical, social and emotional development. Skilled and dedicated teaching and support staff, including specialists in Physical Education, Performing Arts, Art and Forest School, work together to provide the highest level of education and support for every child.

Desired Personal qualities and skills

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children and committed to creating a safe, engaging and nurturing learning environment in which children can develop and grow.

The successful candidate will support teaching and learning in the classroom, deliver planned activities with individuals and small groups and provide ELSA support for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs across the school. The role will also include welcoming children into school who may require extra support.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Dedicated and caring

  • Patient and flexible

  • Creative and proactive

  • A good communicator

  • Able to build trusting relationships with children and respond calmly and sensitively to their needs

  • Someone with a sense of humour who enjoys working as part of a team

The role

Working closely with class teachers, the SENDCo and Inclusion Lead, you will

  • Support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, both indoors and outdoors

  • Undertake observations and assessments, providing regular feedback on children’s progress and achievements

  • Adapt and deliver learning activities with individual children or small groups who would benefit from different learning approaches, as agreed

  • Provide planned individual and small group ELSA sessions for children with identified social and emotional needs

  • Support children to recognise and manage their emotions, develop confidence and build positive relationships

  • Work with staff to help children apply the skills developed through ELSA sessions in the classroom and wider school environment

  • Monitor and record children’s progress, contributing to reviews of their support

  • Encourage inclusion and promote positive relationships

  • Prioritise safeguarding and children’s wellbeing at all times

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, parents and carers

  • Attend meetings, relevant training and ELSA supervision as required

To achieve our shared vision, we are looking for staff who are passionate about education and committed to making a real difference to children’s lives.
