About the role
Job summary
This role sits within the Data and AI team, part of the DCMS Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate.
DCMS is currently preparing for a new integrated business suite (ERP) for finance and HR services, which will feed into many of our core BI processes. Alongside this, we're always looking for ways to improve how we use data and streamline processes, making the most of existing systems and bringing in new tools where they add value.
A big part of this work is the continued development of our Corporate Business Intelligence Platform, including a data warehouse and suite of dashboards. This is the main responsibility of the Business Intelligence team. We're a small team with a big remit, focused on unlocking the value of corporate data and helping put it at the centre of decision-making across the department.
While BI is our main focus, we also use our skills and tools to tackle wider business challenges, using data, automation and emerging technologies to support work that sits beyond traditional business intelligence.
Job description
This role reports to the Business Intelligence Lead. You will be expected to work independently while also contributing flexibly as part of a small collaborative team.
You will assist in the development and maintenance of the Corporate BI Platform, which comprises a data warehouse and a suite of dashboarding tools. The platform supports a broad range of users, particularly within Finance and HR, and continues to expand to incorporate additional business data sources. We currently use Looker Studio as our primary reporting platform and are undertaking a migration to Power BI over the coming months.
Working closely with experienced colleagues, you will help design and deliver reports, dashboards and data processes that provide users with timely, reliable and accessible information. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the platform by supporting data integration activities and helping to improve the quality, accessibility and usability of corporate data.
A key area of work will be supporting the department's transition from a Google-based environment to Microsoft 365. This will involve assisting with the adaptation and replication of existing reporting, analytical and automation processes, while gaining experience of new technologies and helping to shape the future direction of the BI platform.

- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional data modelling principles.
- Ability to use SQL to extract, transform, and analyse data across complex datasets.
- Experience building reports, dashboards, or data visualisations using BI tools such as Power BI, Looker Studio, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Ability to gather and analyse requirements from stakeholders to deliver effective reporting solutions that meet user needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and insights to non-technical audiences.
Desirable skills:
- Understanding of data integration and data pipeline concepts, including ETL/ELT processes and data movement between systems.
- Experience with workflow automation tools, such as Microsoft Power Platform (including Power Automate, Power Apps) or Google Apps Script.
