About the Role

Slough Borough Council is seeking practical, reliable and motivated Grounds Maintenance Semi-Skilled Operatives to join its frontline team. The successful candidates will help maintain parks, gardens, sports pitches, roadsides, playgrounds and public open spaces, ensuring they remain clean, safe and welcoming for residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out grass cutting, lawn maintenance and hedge trimming.
• Maintain shrubs, flower beds, gardens and landscaped areas.
• Collect litter and maintain clean public spaces.
• Assist with sports pitch preparation and maintenance.
• Undertake minor tree maintenance and landscaping tasks as required.
• Help maintain playgrounds and other outdoor facilities.
• Operate grounds maintenance tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles safely.
• Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
• Use handheld electronic devices to record work completed and update job progress.
• Work independently and as part of a team to complete scheduled tasks efficiently.
• Communicate professionally and courteously with residents, colleagues and members of the public.

Skills and Requirements

• Practical experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping or a similar outdoor role.
• Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment safely.
• Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks to a high standard.
• Good teamwork, communication and time-management skills.
• Reliable, hardworking and willing to work outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Basic IT skills for updating work records and using electronic devices.
