About the role

King’s Group Academies is looking for an HR Advisor to join our Central People Team, providing high-quality, proactive HR advice and support to school leaders and managers across our Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR professional to take ownership of a varied employee relations caseload, acting as a trusted adviser to managers and supporting them to achieve fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes.

You will manage employee relations cases from initial advice and investigation through to formal hearings and appeals, covering matters such as disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and absence management. You will provide clear, practical guidance, support managers to conduct effective investigations, review correspondence and ensure cases are managed efficiently through to conclusion.

Working collaboratively with our People Operations Team, you will also provide wider HR advice and coaching, helping managers develop their confidence and capability in managing people effectively. You will build positive working relationships with school leaders, trade unions and other stakeholders, while contributing to the continuous improvement of our HR policies, procedures, guidance and templates.

As part of a central team supporting schools across the Trust, you will play an important role in promoting best practice, maintaining accurate case records and ensuring our approach to people management is fair, inclusive and consistent.

About you

You are a confident, knowledgeable and solutions-focused HR professional who can balance sound employment law advice with a practical understanding of the challenges faced by managers. You are comfortable managing complex employee relations cases independently and can provide clear, robust advice while maintaining positive working relationships.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in an HR Advisor or employee relations role, including managing complex cases from investigation through to formal hearings and appeals.

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law, employee relations and collective bargaining.

  • Experience of working effectively within a trade union environment.

  • The ability to advise, coach and constructively challenge managers, building their confidence and capability in handling people matters.

  • Excellent written communication and report-writing skills, including the ability to advise on investigation processes and best practice.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritise competing demands and maintain accurate, timely case records.

  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, integrity and professionalism.

  • A proactive, self-motivated and solutions-focused approach, with a commitment to continuous professional development.

You will hold a minimum CIPD Level 3 qualification, or be working towards it, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and development.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • CIPD Level 5 or above.

  • A degree in HR, Business or a related field.

  • Experience working within education, a school or an academy trust.

  • An understanding of employment terms and conditions within the education sector.

  • Experience of managing TUPE transfers.

You will also need to be flexible and willing to travel regularly between our schools, with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

If you are passionate about delivering high-quality HR advice, supporting managers to make informed decisions and achieving positive outcomes in complex people matters, we would love to hear from you.
