EC&I Hardware Designer
Location: Warrington - Hybrid working available (typically 2-3 days per week in the office, dependent on project requirements).
Duration: Initial 12-Month Contract
Hours: 40 Hours Per Week, Monday to Friday - Flexibility available
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Rate: DOE
About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an EC&I Hardware Designer to join a leading engineering team delivering complex, safety-critical control and automation solutions within the nuclear sector.
This role offers the chance to work on technically challenging projects from concept through to manufacture and installation, playing a key role in the design and development of control system hardware within a highly regulated environment.

The Role
As an EC&I Hardware Designer, you will be responsible for the design and development of electrical control systems, enclosures, control panels, and associated interface systems.
Working alongside electrical, control, software, and mechanical engineers, you will contribute to the successful delivery of engineering solutions that meet demanding safety, quality, and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical enclosures, control panels, and interface systems.
- Produce detailed AutoCAD drawings and engineering design packages.
- Develop and maintain:
o General Arrangements (GAs)
o I/O Schedules
o Cable calculations and routing schemes
o Power load calculations
o Heat dissipation calculations
- Support engineering reviews and technical assessments.
- Participate in site visits and project meetings.
- Liaise with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are delivered accurately and efficiently.
- Produce supporting documentation including:
o Test specifications
o Inspection reports
o Installation method statements
o Quality records
- Support testing and verification of manufactured equipment against design requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Strong AutoCAD experience within electrical or EC&I design.
- Proven experience delivering hardware design solutions for engineering projects.
- Previous experience designing:
o Control panels
o MCCs (Motor Control Centres)
o Electrical enclosures
- Knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations.
- Understanding of CDM Regulations.
- Experience with cable routing, panel layouts, and system integration.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Experience within highly regulated industries such as:
o Nuclear
o Defence
o Pharmaceutical
- Knowledge of functional safety standards including IEC 61508.
- Familiarity with Sellafield engineering standards and requirements.
Qualifications
- Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, EC&I, or related Engineering discipline.
- Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
