About the role

Zest education  are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join our friendly primary school in Handsworth. This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and help them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENDCo, and external professionals to support pupils with a range of additional needs. You will play a key role in helping children access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEND on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Support pupils with communication, learning, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote inclusion throughout the school day.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times, educational visits, and other school activities.
  • Contribute to monitoring pupil progress and maintaining accurate records.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEND, preferably within a primary school setting.
  • Has a caring, patient, and supportive approach.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (desirable but not essential).

Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or social, emotional and mental health needs would be advantageous.

We Offer

  • A welcoming and supportive school community.
  • Dedicated professional development opportunities.
  • A committed and experienced staff team.
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to children’s lives.
  • Wellbeing support and a positive working environment.
