What type of things will I be working on?

On this 1-year graduate scheme starting September 2027, you will liaise with specialists from Renishaw’s other divisions and get involved in all stages of product development, including:

  • Initial product and technology research
  • Design, implementation and test of new products
  • Providing support for newly released products, investigating and resolving problems that may occur in the field for existing products.

During the scheme you will gain experience of the different ways physics and related technical skills are employed at Renishaw, with an emphasis on long-term research and development of future product platforms. This might include:

  • Construction and measurement of test rigs and concept demonstrators
  • Developing achievable solutions to complex mathematical/physical problems
  • Optical and electro-mechanical component testing
  • Devising targeted experiments and analysing results critically
  • Systems engineering, combining knowledge of underlying mechanisms with practical implementation
  • Applying the scientific method to inform design decisions for multiple engineering disciplines
  • Modelling of optical/thermal/mechanical properties via numerical simulation and/or analytical techniques.

What’s on offer?

  • £31,800 starting salary plus £2,000 sign-on bonus.
  • Fantastic training including core skills training plus access to a learning and development courses platform.
  • Bonus scheme & 9% pension contribution.
  • Lots of perks including medical insurance, access to onsite fitness centres and onsite subsidised restaurants.

Where will I be working?

This role is based at one of our main sites near Wotton-under Edge in Gloucestershire. Since our Renishaw sites are located in semi-rural areas, applicants should ensure they have reliable means of transport to reach the site, as public transportation options may be limited. Alternatively, applicants should be willing to relocate to the local area.

What do I need?

We’re looking for candidates expecting a 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related degree.

Training and development is excellent so candidates with no experience but a keen interest in physics and optics will be strongly considered. If you are excited about the role but feel as though you don’t meet all the requirements, we would encourage you still to apply. You might just be the right person for this role or another placement opportunity at Renishaw.

What’s the application process?

  1. Quick Apply: Simply submit your CV – no cover letter needed! However, we’d love it if you could personalise your CV with a short profile that reflects your interest in Renishaw and this graduate opportunity.
  2. Online Testing *: Complete a task-based online assessment to assess your aligning with Renishaw’s core values
  3. Telephone Call with the GRB Renishaw team – this is not an interview, just a chance for us to have a conversation around what made you apply and what makes you a great fit!
  4. Online Assessment Centre: meet the team and get a great feel for why Renishaw is for you! This will take place in February 2027.

Equal Opportunities

Renishaw are committed to providing reasonable adjustments to make interviews and jobs more accessible. Should you have any difficulty during the recruitment process, or require any reasonable adjustments please contact the team on [email removed]

* Testing is just one part of our process; the final decision is made by line managers and the recruitment team based on your overall performance. We use testing to help structure interviews and guide the assessment centre process, supporting us in making well-rounded recruitment decisions.
