About the role
Our client, an engineering organisation in Tyne & Wear, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end mechanical design of electromechanical products - from clean-sheet concept through prototype build/test and release into production.

What you'll be doing
- Owning mechanical design for rotating equipment / drivetrain-style assemblies
- Leading concept development, prototyping, validation and test support
- Delivering engineering analysis (hand calcs + CAE) with a focus on reliability/durability
- Producing 3D CAD and 2D drawings, supporting release to manufacture
- Applying DFM/DFA and DFMEA/PFMEA
- Working closely with manufacturing/test teams, plus supplier management
- Mentoring junior engineers
What we're looking for
- Strong 3D CAD + 2D drawing capability (any major CAD package)
- Experience with engineering analysis / CAE
- Practical background in DFM and supporting builds/testing
- Some supplier management exposure
- Mechanical Engineering degree (or equivalent experience)
Nice to have
- Inventor / SolidWorks, MASTA / KISSsoft
- High-volume manufacturing and/or casting design
- Gears/transmissions/bearings knowledge and related calculations
