About The Tutors’ Association

The Tutors’ Association (TTA) is the professional membership body for tutoring and the wider tuition sector.

Representing individual tutors and tuition organisations across the UK and internationally, TTA provides professional standards, membership support, safeguarding and DBS services, events, training, sector representation and opportunities for collaboration.

Following a significant period of growth, we are looking for an experienced and highly organised Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the Association and help ensure that our growing membership receives an excellent service.

The role

The Operations Manager will play a central role in coordinating TTA’s day-to-day operations, working closely with the Board, contractors and wider team.

This is a broad operational management role suited to someone who is comfortable working across multiple areas of a small but busy organisation. You will work across people, systems, membership operations, finances, projects and events while ensuring that agreed priorities and decisions are translated into effective delivery.

You do not need to come from the tutoring sector. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience managing operations within a membership body, professional association, charity, SME or similarly varied organisation.

Key responsibilities

Operational management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of TTA and ensure key activities, deadlines and commitments are delivered.
  • Coordinate priorities across the organisation and maintain clear oversight of ongoing projects.
  • Develop and maintain effective operational systems, processes and documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, member experience and organisational resilience.
  • Maintain appropriate records and ensure agreed actions are followed through.

Team and contractor management

  • Coordinate and support TTA’s small remote team of staff and contractors.
  • Provide clear priorities, responsibilities and accountability across operational functions.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding and handovers where required.
  • Help maintain a positive, collaborative and effective remote working environment.

Membership and services

  • Oversee the effective delivery of membership services and member support.
  • Monitor membership growth, retention and engagement.
  • Work with colleagues to improve the member journey and identify opportunities to develop TTA’s services.
  • Ensure member enquiries and operational issues are handled effectively and consistently.

Finance and administration

  • Work closely with the General Manager, Treasurer, Company Secretary and external accountants to support effective financial management.
  • Oversee operational budgets, invoices, supplier arrangements and financial processes within agreed delegated authority.
  • Support the production and review of management information and budgets.
  • Ensure appropriate financial procedures and controls are followed.

Events and projects

  • Provide operational oversight of TTA’s programme of events, conferences, awards and other major projects.
  • Support colleagues responsible for individual events while maintaining oversight of
    budgets, timelines, risks and delivery.
  • Coordinate external suppliers, partners and stakeholders where required.

Governance and Board support

  • Support the effective implementation of decisions made by the Board.
  • Prepare appropriate operational information and updates for Board meetings.
  • Work with the President, General Manager, Treasurer, Company Secretary and relevant committees to ensure agreed actions are progressed.
  • Support the implementation of operational and organisational improvements arising from TTA’s ongoing governance work.

External relationships

  • Develop positive relationships with members, partners, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Represent TTA professionally at meetings, events and conferences where appropriate.
  • Support partnerships and projects that further TTA’s objectives and benefit its membership.

About you

We are looking for someone who combines strong organisational ability with sound judgement and a practical approach to getting things done.

You are likely to have:

  • Significant experience in operations, organisational management or a comparable role.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Experience managing or coordinating staff, contractors or external suppliers.
  • Confidence working with budgets and financial information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders and Boards or leadership teams.
  • Experience working independently in a remote environment.
  • The ability to move comfortably between organisational priorities and practical day-to-day delivery.
  • A collaborative, calm and solutions-focused approach.

Experience within a membership organisation, professional association, charity, education organisation or small-to medium-sized organisation would be advantageous, but is not essential.

What we’re looking for

TTA has grown significantly in recent years and this role requires someone who enjoys working in an organisation where no two days are quite the same.

You might spend one day reviewing membership performance and budgets, another supporting a major event or project, and another improving an internal process or working with colleagues on a new member initiative.

We are therefore looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership, making things happen and working collaboratively within a small organisation.

What we offer

  • £40,000–£44,000 salary, depending on experience.
  • Fully remote working.
  • A varied operational management role with considerable autonomy.
  • The opportunity to work with a growing professional membership organisation.
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Pension.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Opportunities to attend TTA events and work with organisations across the tutoring and education sectors.
  • Potential opportunities for international travel.

How to apply

Please send your CV and a short covering letter explaining your interest in the role and the experience you would bring to [email removed].

Closing date: 18th October 2026

Interviews: Week commencing 26th October 2026

Target start date: Ideally early December 2026, subject to the successful candidate’s availability.

The Tutors’ Association welcomes applications from candidates from a wide range of professional backgrounds and experiences.
