About the role

SEND Teacher – Sheffield

Supporting pupils with severe physical needs and challenging behaviour

Are you a compassionate, resilient SEND Teacher who can help every pupil feel included, supported and ready to learn?

PK Education is looking for a qualified SEND Teacher to work in a specialist setting in Sheffield, supporting children with severe physical needs and challenging behaviour. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference through engaging teaching, strong relationships and a personalised approach.

The role

You will:

  • Plan and deliver accessible, engaging lessons tailored to pupils’ individual needs, abilities and EHCP outcomes.

  • Adapt teaching resources and activities for pupils with complex physical needs, using appropriate communication aids and assistive technology.

  • Create a calm, consistent classroom, using positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.

  • Work closely with teaching assistants, families and professionals to support pupils’ learning, communication and wellbeing.

  • Follow individual care plans and school procedures, supporting personal care where required and undertaking relevant training.

  • Celebrate progress in all its forms, helping pupils develop confidence, independence and skills for everyday life.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience teaching pupils with SEND, particularly severe physical needs and complex learning needs.

  • Experience supporting children who display challenging behaviour, with a patient and proactive approach.

  • An understanding of accessible learning, sensory approaches and alternative methods of communication.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.

  • A DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one.

Experience working alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists or speech and language therapists would be beneficial, as would relevant training in moving and handling.
