The AI Application Consultant will sit within a developing AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) and play a key role in the technical delivery of rapid AI solutions across SP Energy Networks.
The initial focus of the role will be on SPT Connections, delivering quick, practical, high-value AI applications to improve efficiency, decision-making and customer outcomes. The role will subsequently scale across wider SPT and later SPD.
This is a hands-on delivery role, combining technical development, project delivery and stakeholder engagement to move AI solutions quickly from problem to deployment.
Description
The post holder is accountable for delivering rapid, practical AI solutions aligned to business needs, working closely with stakeholders and delivery partners to ensure solutions are implemented effectively and deliver measurable value.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project / Programme Delivery – essential
- Propose, plan, coordinate and deliver AI applications with full ownership of scope, timeline, cost and quality
- Deliver rapid AI solutions from problem definition through to operational deployment
- Maintain delivery plans, milestones and dependencies using appropriate tools
- Identify risks and proactively implement mitigation measures
- Provide clear reporting to stakeholders and line management
- Support procurement and coordination of suppliers where required
- Ensure delivery aligns with agreed budgets and timelines
Technical Delivery & Expertise – essential
- Design, develop and deploy practical AI solutions focused on real business challenges
- Translate business problems into workable technical outputs (models, dashboards, automation tools)
- Define data requirements, testing, validation and deployment approaches
- Ensure solutions are practical, scalable and aligned with operational systems
- Review and assure quality of technical outputs and deliverables
- Act as a technical point of contact for stakeholders and partners
- Capture learning and support reuse of solutions across the business
People Management – desired but not essential
- Act as a role model within the team
- Support knowledge sharing and capability building
- Contribute to a positive, delivery-focused team culture
Stakeholder Engagement – essential
- Engage directly with SPT Connections teams to identify and solve business challenges
- Translate technical outputs into simple, usable solutions
- Coordinate with internal teams, IT, and external partners
- Represent the CoE professionally across stakeholders
Continued Improvements
- Contribute to development of CoE standards, tools and reusable approaches
- Identify new opportunities for AI application and process improvement
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, ownership and delivery focus
Requirements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Strong experience in AI, analytics, automation or digital solution delivery
- Ability to rapidly prototype and deploy practical solutions
- Strong project delivery capability
- Experience working with data and operational systems
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Commercial awareness and budget understanding
- Good communication skills, able to explain technical concepts simply
MINIMUM CRITERIA
- Degree in a relevant technical subject or equivalent experience
- Proven experience delivering technical solutions in a business environment
- Strong project management and prioritisation capability
- Ability to work in fast-paced and complex environments
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- High level of professional integrity and safety awareness
- Full UK driving licence
