We are looking for an experienced, confident and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team.
This is a varied and important role with a strong focus on SEND, inclusion and high-quality teaching and learning. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and school leaders to support individual pupils, lead small-group learning and, depending on experience and confidence, take responsibility for whole-class learning when appropriate.
For a suitably experienced or qualified candidate, we would also consider appointment at Higher Level Teaching Assistant level.
We are looking for someone who can combine warmth and nurture with high expectations, strong routines and confident classroom practice.
The RoleThe successful candidate will play a key role in helping children access learning, develop independence and make strong progress.
You will:
support individuals and groups with learning across the school;
deliver targeted interventions and support for pupils with SEND and additional needs;
lead planned learning activities for small groups;
where appropriate, lead whole-class learning or provide cover;
adapt learning and resources to meet pupils’ differing needs;
support children with communication, regulation, independence and social development;
establish calm, purposeful learning environments with clear routines and expectations;
work closely with teachers to assess pupils’ understanding and identify next steps;
contribute to the implementation and review of SEND provision and individual support plans;
use initiative and professional judgement when responding to pupils’ needs;
work collaboratively with teachers, the SENDCo and wider staff team; and
contribute fully to the wider life of our small school.
We are particularly interested in someone who:
has experience of working with children in a primary school;
has experience of supporting pupils with SEND and additional needs;
is confident leading learning for individuals and groups;
has strong classroom management skills and can establish positive, consistent routines;
understands how to scaffold and adapt learning without lowering expectations;
builds strong relationships with children while maintaining clear boundaries;
remains calm, consistent and solution-focused when children are finding things difficult;
has a good understanding of early reading, writing and mathematics;
is proactive, organised and able to use their initiative;
communicates effectively with colleagues, pupils and families;
is reflective and committed to developing their practice;
is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; and
will support the Christian ethos and values of Bosley St Mary’s CE Primary School.
Experience or training in areas such as autism, ADHD, communication needs, sensory regulation or positive behaviour support would be an advantage.
